Megaly stormed into the small apartment in Stormwind and slammed the door roughly behind her. Lilbit squeaked in surprise then settled on the bed, her green scaly head tucked under the pillow. Meg continued to pace the confines of the room, unable to calm enough to rest. Several times she started to reach for her flask only to change her mind. Her own drunkenness seemed to have gotten her into this mess in the first place.

She had already been drinking some before arriving at the Boomsticks’ Pub. She never thought her good sense got impaired when she was drinking before but it had to have been for her to go ahead and walk into that room after seeing Garilos sitting there. She should have just turned around and left but once he saw her, stubborn pride kept her there. She refused to run away again.

Most of the evening had been fine. She enjoyed some fine ale with the Boomstick Gang, shared a few “creative” defense techniques with a little gnome she met, and shared some pleasant conversation. When she left, though, he followed.

She kicked a chair out from the table in the room and sat down heavily in the seat, dropping her head into her hands. Why did she even stop to talk to him? She knew what he wanted. He wanted someone long term. He wouldn’t be content with what she had to offer. She didn’t want anyone long term.

She sighed. That was the problem though. She did want him. Wanted him bad enough that she had forgotten how badly his interest had scared her at their last meeting. She had even invited him back to her room for the night. Of course then he told her he wanted more than one night.

That was how it started last time. Sweet words to trap the unwary. Promises hiding lies. Then they grow bored, throw you aside for a prettier face, and say it was just a mistake. You were just a mistake.

She slammed her fist on the table, startling a squeak out of Lilbit again. With a sigh she stripped off her boots and went to lie on the bed to comfort the little green whelpling. Lilbit huddled against her and trilled, trying to comfort Meg in return.

She couldn’t be hurt like that again. She knew she wasn’t strong enough to handle it a second time. Deep down she had to admit to herself though that she wanted to see him again.
