Megaly: Exchange of Letters
Posted by: Nauloera in Collaborations, IC: Megaly, In Character(( This occurs after A Short Letter To Megaly and before Do They Have Nightmares? over at Garilos’ Blog ))
The acrid smell of burning dung logs drifted through the air in Valgarde. The black rock for fires had run low and until the supply ships arrived it was more tightly rationed than the booze. The stables had taken to rolling the soiled straw into logs and using it for the watch fires around the keep. Though the vile things weren’t burnt indoors, even having them near the keep wrapped the entire area in stench.
Megaly hadn’t wanted to come back here. As soon as the blizzard of two weeks past had ended she’d set out searching for Garilos. She’d followed his trail through several locations, never staying for long in any of them. Just long enough to determine which way he’d gone, toward what town. She seemed forever behind him with no way of catching up. In frustration she’d returned to Valgarde with the intention of catching the next ship back to Stormwind.
She rubbed at her nose as the odor burned it again and she cursed quietly as she fumbled out a note on hide to leave here for him in case he returned. She’d gotten a few short letters and oddments that he’d sent her; a book, some shells he’d found somewhere, a curiously shimmering rock. More than any of that, though, she wanted to see him.
“But I can’t see ‘im if I can’t catch up wit’ the squirrly bastard,” she muttered, doggedly scratching out another few letters.
Finally she finished the note and glared at it. She knew there were things wrong with it but it would have to do. Hopefully he’d understand what she was saying. She left it with the innkeeper with instructions to give it to Garilos if he arrived and scowled at the man until he nodded and swore repeatedly to do so. With that she stomped from the inn and headed for the stable. She couldn’t stay in Valgarde any longer. The smell was too much and so was the constant fighting with the Valkyr. She hadn’t been to Valliance Keep yet though. As a second Alliance outpost on the coast it seemed a likely place where he would end up eventually. A few days hard travel and she’d be there. She could start her search there.
“An’ if he ain’ there, I’ll jus’ haveta come back to Valgarde an’ wait,” she muttered as she led Muffin from the stables. “An’ I’m gonna kick his ass if makes me wait too long.”
