There was a damp chill in the air as Ebonywind saddled Naha and prepared for the journey from Terokkar to Nagrand. The road would take her back through the depths of the forest and through Shattrath to reach her destination. Perhaps a few days in the saddle would do her some good. She could think about nothing. Let her mind focus on riding, on the trees as they passed, the sounds of leaves and twigs underneath Naha’s feet.

She settled Chicken into the small carrier strapped on one side of Naha’s saddle and Daega into the large sling on the other side. The animals settled in quickly, some instinct telling them they were leaving this place that frightened them so. She mounted in silence and urged Naha to the gate, leaving Stonebreaker Hold without even so much as a look back. She realized she had just been another body there. Yet another come to fight for them for a while then move on. Nobody in the place ever became friendly with the transients. Even if they did stay for long periods, it was only a matter of time before they died to the world they fought for. She felt no remorse. No farewells offered or given. She was far too worn out to be concerned about either.

Ebonywind lay in the dark listening to the strange night sounds in this place. Terokkar forest was frightening during the day, moreso at night. The strange howls and moans that whispered through the trees chilled the blood. Fortunately she was sleeping in a large, straw filled bed tonight. The noises had badly frightened Daega and Chicken and both creatures insisted on sleeping with her. She knew she was going to have to train the young elekk out of that habit before she got much larger. She did not look forward to a full grown elekk trying to climb into a hammock with her.

The small pack of rations wasn’t nearly enough to feed those gathered around begging for a few scraps of food. Ebonywind frowned as she handed the last chunk of bread to a grateful child that quickly scampered off with her prize. The rest of those gathered slowly dispersed to search elsewhere for a meal when they realized she had nothing left to give. She watched them move back among the tumbled stones and wreckage of the Lower City of Shattrath.

Ebonywind sat staring out over the marshland surrounding Zabra’jin. Her thoughts hadn’t stopped racing since she had left that small inn in Ratchet. When she woke and found Grizz there watching her, her words fled. She could barely mutter a polite farewell as she staggered from the inn, head throbbing, stomach rolling, and unsure if it was remnants of the night before or the shock of finding him there.

Her head felt full. Full and it hurt. A lot. Her mouth felt thick and tasted like kodo dung. She tried vainly to open swollen eyes. The small bit of sunlight that filtered in was like a spear piercing her head. She tried to shift on the straw-filled bed where she lay but her stomach rolled ominously.

The constant pulling is more than I can bear. I do not know where I am being pulled to but the sensation keeps me awake at night, drives through my mind during the day. I feel as if I am going mad.

Perhaps I am. Perhaps this strange land which I have found myself in is affecting my stability. The loneliness still beats upon me. The pulling tears me apart from within. Chicken and Daega, though I love them dearly, are not very good company. I talk to them nonetheless, just to hear a voice. I would return to Thunder Bluff to stay if not for the pulling.

Some nights it becomes too much to bear. I cannot sleep, I cannot eat. I wander trying to follow it but cannot find my way. I must find a solution soon before I go mad.

I had almost forgotten how sweet the air was in Mulgore. How soothing the wind blowing through my mane could be. So long had sulfur been burning my nose and clinging to my fur I was unsure I would ever smell sweetness again. The time away from my homelands bothered me, and I knew I would have to go back to that far away place, but for a brief period I was happy just to see my own people again.

After so many days in Hellfire, I would not have believed this strange world of Outland capable of having life anywhere. I was proven wrong when I traveled to Zangarmarsh. I was amazed by what I saw. Mushrooms taller than trees. Grassy marshlands teeming with life. Animals and insects throughout. This was a vastly different place than the wasteland of Hellfire Peninsula.

I have lost track of the days here in Hellfire. The light of day is longer here. It is difficult to tell if it is from the sun or the strange swirling masses I glimpse through the haze of the sky. I cannot feel the land. I cannot sense life here. The fel power seeps through this place corrupting even stone.

The air in Hellfire dries my throat and eyes. The stench of sulfur burns the nose. How anyone could survive here for any length of time is beyond me. Even the chicken seems irritated and restless. I think her sand fleas left for a more pleasant clime.
